Senior Platform Engineer
Senior Platform Engineer
Help us create the software platform that will change Norwegian healthcare forever.
As experienced technologists, the work we do is important to our employers, but, at some point, we all ask ourselves the same question: Is the work itself important?
At Aidn, your superpowers will not go to waste.
We believe everyone has the right to better health and our ambition is to create the missing healthcare platform all Norwegians deserve—an integrated set of services and applications that allows institutions, clinicians, social workers, and citizens to collaborate on healthcare matters as a single team.
That’s awesome, but to realise that vision, we need a solid foundation to stand on.
Our current products have been built from the ground up by small, cross-functional teams of talented product managers, designers and developers entrusted with the authority to make their own decisions. We act like a startup—we move fast and ship often.
In the beginning, we made an intentional decision to keep our infrastructure as simple as possible. Reducing complexity in this area allowed us to focus our energy on building engagement with potential users.
As we continue to expand the scope of our efforts, we see a need to revisit those early design decisions. In other words, we can’t stay simple forever. When Aidn succeeds, our software will be among the most critical platforms running in Norway’s municipalities.
We need to make our infrastructure platform more resilient now, so that as we scale our operations in the coming years, our systems remain reliable and maintainable.
That’s where you come in.
Building great infrastructure requires taking a long view. It is a continuous, iterative process of steady improvement. We need someone who can do more than just write Helm charts. We need someone who thrives on solving hard problems.
- How do we identify and deploy common services that can be shared by the entire organisation (and possibly others organisations)?
- What kind of tooling can we provide to make our developers as efficient as possible?
- What best practices do we want to codify into our pipelines and operations? And how do we ensure those practices are adopted by the whole organisation?
- What needs to be in place to support our products professionally when they enter the commercial market?
Beyond mere experience with Kubernetes, we’re looking for someone with the hard-earned wisdom to help us make choices now that set us up for future success. Our expectation is you will focus on and contribute towards three main goals:
- Design, build and progress the transition of our infrastructure platform
- Enable the engineers of our product teams
- Champion operational excellence and help align the organisation around best practices
There are as many ways to achieve these goals. At Aidn, you will have the freedom to make your own choices concerning what is needed and how you prioritise your efforts. But overall, we would expect your responsibilities to fall into five major categories, keeping security top of mind all the while.
- Drive continuous design and implementation of our infrastructure platform
- Develop solutions to enhance the daily workflow and productivity of engineers (automate systems and workflows as well as build tooling)
- Collaborate with engineers within your team and product teams to align around CI/CD (environments, secret management, key management, etc.) and operational (logging, analytics, monitoring, alerting, scaling, etc.) best practices
- Act as a site reliability engineer to ensure operational best practices are adopted within product teams and across Aidn
Share knowledge with our product teams (via talks and presentations, etc.) to inform on new infrastructure capabilities and demonstrate how they can be leveraged to improve engineering efficiency.
You have the skills, experience and drive to juggle these varied responsibilities, we have a group of awesome engineers who would be delighted to make your acquaintance.
Plus, there is room for you to grow with us.
The nature and scale of Aidn’s mandate ensures all engineers will face a steady stream of interesting challenges for many years.
This role will be the third full-time platform engineer hired at the company. By joining in this early stage, you will be part of a tight-knit, autonomous platform team with the opportunity to have a huge impact on how the organisation will architect and implement our infrastructure platform.
You will also have access to professional managers that will assist and support you in your personal development.
Not to mention the benefits you would expect from a startup company.
- Flexible workplace (work from home, our local Aidn office, or even a workation locale every now and again)
- Flexible hours
- 6 weeks vacation
- Employee shares
And—if all that weren’t enough—Aidn has a unique advantage.
Aidn is a member of the Kernel family, a collection of like-minded companies focused on building the next generation of health services for Norway and beyond.
This association gives us access to advisors across the entire healthcare ecosystem, enough capital to support the long runways our ambitions require, and the strategic partnerships needed to realise cooperation across today’s siloed landscape.
